On-site
SmartHTC Checklist — Silver Service
SmartHTC measures the actual heat loss of a building, allowing easy comparison between expected and real-world performance. By identifying true peak heat demand, it supports accurate heat pump sizing and improved system efficiency. The process is nonintrusive, with discreet sensors left in the property for 21 days while normal living continues.
Our Silver option offers a lower cost alternative with sensors posted directly to the client. A clear guide explains how to install the sensors, which remain in place for 21 days. A prepaid return box is provided for easy sensor return, with no site visits included.
SmartHTC is available for 1–2-bedroom, 3 bedroom, and 4+ bedroom properties, with sensor quantities adjusted to suit the size of the home.
1. Build stage
This service is typically carried out on homes selected for pre- or post-retrofit assessment, or for homeowners wanting to understand the true energy efficiency of their property. It can also be performed on completed new builds as a demonstration of build quality and to verify EPC performance, or to help size-up a heat pump before installing.
2. Time of year
SmartHTC requires at least a 7°C difference between internal and external temperatures. Because of this, the service cannot be carried out reliably during late spring and summer (May–August).
The most accurate results are achieved between October and March, with September and April also suitable depending on weather conditions.
3. Information required
• Full name
• Property address
• Floor plans (if available)
4. Power
The sensors are battery-powered, so nothing needs plugging in.
5. Access
You’ll need access to the whole property to fit the sensors. They must be placed on internal walls, away from radiators and ventilation, so they aren’t affected by hot or cold spots.
You’ll also need to be able to access your electricity (and gas/heating oil, if applicable) meter(s), unless a smart meter is installed.
6. Postage
In order to carry out this service, you’ll need to receive and return the data loggers. Don’t worry, this will be included in the quote price, and the return label will be included in the parcel when you first receive the data loggers.
7. Peace of mind
We have created easy-to-follow guides for every aspect of the data collection needed to provide you with a Heat Transfer Coefficient for your home. If anything is unclear, please contact your Relationship Manager, who will be happy to help with any queries.
