On-site
Sound Insulation Testing (Conflict) Checklist
1. Build stage
Conflict Sound Insulation Tests are carried out on existing builds where neighbours on either side of a party element believe the element is not performing as claimed or expected. All rooms to be tested should be cleared of as much debris and furniture as practicable.
2. Drawings
If they are available, please send us the floor plans, sections, and elevations you haven’t already sent. This helps us to identify the party walls and floors that we are testing. Send these drawings to your Relationship Manager before the test.
3. Quiet
Reasonably quiet conditions are required throughout testing to ensure accurate test results. All practicable steps must be taken by those in control of the site to minimise noise during the testing period.
4. Safety
For safety reasons and to comply with operational procedures, all occupants should vacate the premises on either side of the party element under test (including pets and children!) for the full duration of the test. Our equipment emits sound levels exceeding 110 dB(A), which can cause permanent hearing damage without proper protection. Additionally, our sound source is remote-controlled and can start unexpectedly.
5. Access (important)
We need access to both sides of the party wall or floor simultaneously to carry out the test. If the neighbouring property is owned separately, please ensure access is arranged before our visit. If we have to come back, a revisit charge will apply.
6. Report
It would be beneficial to refer to the original sound test so we can test the same party elements tested initially to compare results, but it is not imperative.
7. Party floor coverings
It is standard procedure to test on the sub-floor, without floor coverings present. However, we understand if this isn’t possible, and the floor covering will have to be listed as a deviation from the standard test procedure on the sound insulation testing report.
8. Target
Due to different targets for new builds and conversions, it’s important that our engineer is made aware of the build type from the outset.
9. Power
We require 240V sockets in each test room.
10. Parking
We need a parking spot within 20 meters of the plot we are testing, as the equipment is heavy and very expensive. If no parking can be provided, please notify your relationship manager, as parking charges will be added to the final invoice.
11. Location and site address
We aim to arrive at the designated time window, so to help us be as efficient as we can, let us know if there are any difficulties finding the site. Ideally, send us what3words. For your certification records we will require the registered site address. Please ensure the correct address is used on all correspondence, as changes will incur an additional cost.
12. Signature
A site manager or representative must be present throughout the duration of the testing—for our own safety—and be able to provide a signature once we are finished.
